How To Get Motivated To Workout
We’ve all been there. You’ve set your new fitness goals for the year. You’re going to workout at least 3, 4, 5 times a week. You’ve got your activewear all prepped and ready to go for the next morning, but when you wake up the last thing you feel like doing is getting up and sweating it out at the gym.
So how do you get yourself going when you just want to stay in?
Like anything, establishing a new routine or habit takes time.
Here are a few things that will help you get motivated to get moving:
- Jump for joy.
Literally jump for joy as if something really awesome has just happened (remember a time when you were really happy and excited). Did you know that a change in your physiology will change your state? Getting your body moving with a simple movement such as jumping will put you in a more positive stead to get your butt out of the house and to the gym.
- Take notice of how you feel when you finish working out.
Remembering how you feel after a work out is really important. It creates a positive association with exercise so that even when you don’t feel like getting started, you know once you’ve finished you’ll feel so much better for it.
- Plan your workouts with a buddy.
Planning a workout with a friend will help keep you accountable to simply turn up and that’s the first step. Once you’re at the gym or fitness class, you might as well make the most of it, get moving and enjoy being active!
Just remember that feeling in the mood to exercise won’t always happen naturally. You need to create the state that will best help you get out of the house and to the gym (or beach, park etc). Once you’re there, just get moving. Keep focusing on how great you’re going to feel once you’ve finished moving your body!
